001 – Intro

Hey Everyone and welcome back to let’s play world of warcraft, presented to you by my world of WoW. I’m your host Kaga, and I’m glad to say it’s time once again to resume leveling our Dwarf Mage!

When we last left off we’d cleaned up a cave of troll’s and a named fire elemental, and apparently that fire elementals appearance, along with this earthquake is a pretty big deal. So big in fact that we need to go to the Capital Dwarven city of Ironforge in order to to report the incident.

We’ve been told to rendevouz with a Gnome in the East so let’s go and do that. As always don’t be afraid to kill a few mobs for fun along the way!

Hm as luck would have have it as soon as we go to enter the passage through to the rest of Dun Morogh we suffer another quake. This means we can’t get through! Whatever shall we do? Well fear not, because our gnome friend happens to have some contacts up his sleeve. So let’s go meet his friend and see what he can offer us.

Oooh! A gyrocopter – sweet. But before we leave we need to grab supplies. These can be found inside the bunker. Oh, it seems like this Dwarf wants us to make sure we don’t forget about the people that are more or less trapped here. Telling someone to go rescue them would probably be the decent thing to do.

Rummage through the bunker and you’ll find the supplies you need for take off. Now is also a good time to visit your trainer and pick up any new skills. It took me quite a while to find the supplies needed, despite the fact that they shimmer and are pretty obvious – I guess I just wasn’t concentrating – yep, that sounds like something I’d do!

Okay so I’ve finally found all three items and now it’s time to take off into the unknown – awesome! Let’s return to that Gyrocopter, something tells me I should be saying get to zie chopper or similar.

The flight itself was quite different to what I expected – I expected the copter to crash, afterall, Gnomish technology has a bit of a reputation for bugging out. Fortunately however we do make it to Kharanos, and when we get there we have some quests to hand in, and more to pick up.

We also got a bag of goodies when going on that joyride so lets see whats inside. Hmm, mostly useless crap but oh! – Alcohol! Yeah! Jackpot! At least now we can quest with a bit of a buzz! There’s quite a few quests to grab in this area, but you can find them pretty easily using your minimap.

If you wish you could now pick up cooking, but I’m going to save my precious pennies.

Finally you get asked to go to Ironforge, and you get a free ride there! (You used to have to walk). So jump on a gryphon and take off towards the grand city. I had a little comp lag here so my apologies for any choppy footage.

Upon touchdown we deliver our note to its intended recipient, who just so happens to be near the mining trainer. On this toon I’m getting the professions Mining and Skinning with the sole intent of making profit off of them.

And oh look, ding again – another level closer. If you do get mining don’t forget to turn on track minerals, and buy a mining pick! I forgot to get the pick as you will soon see. It’s now time to learn skinning so we’ll find and visit that trainer. We’ll also need a skinning knife – which reminds me I still need a mining pick, so I better grab one of those as well. Hmph!

Now that we have both professions taken care of we can leave Ironforge and get back to questing. If you are new to the game however it wouldn’t hurt to have a look around the town. It’s a fairly safe place just don’t fall in the lava…and yes, I have done it, and yes I did die, and no I did not learn from it and yes I did it again.

Anyways we have levelling to get to so it’s time to fly out of the city and back to Kharanos. We even get a quest to go back there which means hooray for us – we get some more experience!

Upon touchdown we handin our goto quest which is located at the cooking trainer. We can grab our reward and then set off about questing. It never hurts to interact with the locals! The first time I came through here I was quite bewildered because it’s changed signifcantly with the Cataclysm. The gnome here looks like she knows whats what though so let’s give her a visit. So, now more questing up in the shimmer ridge.

And now you may smile with amusement. As you can see, it took me some time to find the path up to the top of this ridge. My only defense is that I swear the path used to be on the other side, which is now a dead end! So go the opposite way to what I did to avoid getting lost. On the plus side, I got to kill some wolves, which for some reason weren’t skinnable. Perhaps thats a newish thing that mobs under level 5 can’t be skinned. Hm.

Oh well, eventually I figure out how to get up the mountain – and now it’s troll clobbering time! We need to kill the trolls as well as collect their weed. They are fairly easy to defeat just be aware of where you are standing so that you dont aggro too many at once. You may also find mining veins around here as I did.

So here we are, owning trolls and generally having a good time blowing things up as only mages know how. Then when we are done we can head back to town, killing the boars and wolves as we go.

We have a few handins and new quests to grab, this is great! Making really good progress and generally not having any issues with levelling at all. Don’t forget the handin inside the inn, and also remember to vendor unwanted items for bag space.

Before we leave the inn it’s time to visit our trainer – and what do we get? The complete awesomeness that is Frostbolt. Frostbolt attacks enemies at range, with less damage than fireball but it can also snare them – this means they are slowed down drastically. This can give us massive advantages if used correctly, particularly when used with other spells like Frost nova which we will get later on.

With our frostbolt at the ready it’s time to tackle another set of quests. Here we need to kill Wendigo’s, investigate a cave and collect some supplies, all of that will take place…next episode! I look forward to seeing you there, and if you haven’t already, don’t forget to subscribe!

006 – (filler) flow
By now you’re probably starting to get the hang of things. You complete quests to open up more quests and gain stronger attributes via levelling up. It’s important to note that the time it takes between each level is generally more and more each time, for example levels 84-85 taking hours and hours longer than level 1-2.

007 – (filler) materials

The ore we are mining and the skins we are skinning, as well as any cloth we get we are going to hang on to for the moment. Later we will return to Ironforge and try to sell these items on the Auction House or AH as it’s commonly called. The AH is where you will do most of your currency turnover and we’ll introduce it in detail when the time comes to use it. For now though just hang on to the materials you find.

008 – (filler) skillups

With mining your current skill level determines the types of veins you can mine from. Azeroth and beyond is a host
to a whole range of minerals including copper, tin, iron, silver, gold and more. You’ll usually find the higher valued items in higher levelled areas. If you’re worried about keeping your professions up to date with your level, no matter which profession, you can use the rule of 5. This simply means take your character level and multiply it by 5 and if your skill level is at that or higher you should be fine. For example at level 10 I should ensure I have 50 mining and 50 skinning before leaving the area. The last thing we want is a mob we can’t skin or a vein we can’t tap into because we didn’t train our skill to a high enough level.

Hello Everybody and welcome to Lets play WoW. I’m your host Kaga from My World of WoW and I’m going to be narrating
you through an entire World of Warcraft let’s play. To make things exciting we’re going to be following my levelling of Dwarf Mage. Yes, that’s right a Dwarf Mage. You don’t see many. But, well Dwarves are awesome, and Mages even moreso. So without further ado lets get started…

As a Dwarf when you first login and the intro cut scene has finished you’ll appear here, in Dun Morogh. Which is
WoW speak for Dwarf land. Pretty much from here on out it’s completely up to you what you do, within the games
capabilities and rules of course. We would find however that if we ventured too far out of this area we’d soon be
set upon by enemies much stronger than we are. So, we better level up!

As you can see the guy, that is to say, the dwarf, standing next to me has an exclamation mark on his head – and no,
it’s not a fancy hat. This means he wants me to do something for him, you’ll find this kind of thing recurring
through this game. That is – you’ll be asked to do something by an npc thats too lazy to do it themselves. On the
plus side though actually completing the quest gives you rewards.

These can include experience, money, and items. In this early stage of the game however the rewards will be pretty
downright crappy – but thats ok, because even though they are bad they will still be better than what we currently
have! (But not by much).

So, as it turns out, the Dwarf with the exclamation mark on his head is worried that some troggs are going to take
over. Apparently there’s been some kind of earthquake, and now the troggs are pissed and want to kill dwarves. My job now is to kill 6 of the Trogg’s in some kind of sicophant style lesson. Sounds like fun.

As a noobie level 1 Mage other than walking and talking I really only know how to do one thing. Well, 2 things really. The first is, I can hurl fireballs at my enemies – that’s awesome. Secondly, I can hit them with whatever
stick, shovel, frying pan or any other sharp or blunt object I might happen to have equipped. I’m a Mage though
afterall, so Melee combat isn’t going to be my forte. Instead, it’s best for me to just keep hurling those great
balls of fire at every ugly face I see.

The good news is, despite the fact I’m incredibly weak at the moment, the Troggs are even weaker! Without too much effort victory will be at hand.

When I kill monsters, or Mobs, as they are often called, they leave behind a corpse. If you think about it this makes sense. Now, being that I’m somewhat of a hobo I can dig through the corpses belongings and take whatever I find. This is called “looting” and its the way you will get the majority of your items in the game. Yep, thats right, most of your stuff is going to be stolen from dead, defensless monsters – isn’t life grande!

Not only do I get loot from Monsters but I get experience from killing them. I guess practice makes perfect.
When I get enough experience point’s I’ll level up. This is often called “dinging” because long ago in WoW’s
predessecor Everquest the game would make a DING noise when you levelled. Levelling up to the maximum level is our
goal in this project. At this point in time the maximum level is 85. Before WoW was released it was only level 40! On release it went to 60 and was then increased to 70 in the Burning Crusade expansion. After that, Wrath of the Lich King was released, raising the level cap to 80, and finally in the latest expansion – Cataclysm, the maximum level is 85.

Don’t be fooled though – once you hit 85 the game is far from over, in fact many people say that until you hit the max level the game doesn’t really begin! We’ll look at more about end-game content later down the line. For now, we have enough to worry about with handling these blasted troggs!

After handling those 6 Troggs I was told to now take care of the bigger ones. Apparantly they are inspiring the smaller ones to attack, so clearing them out would be immensly helpful. Personally, I’d rather just let them ransack
the place and go retire in Ironforge, but eh, I need the experience points.

Usually once a quest is completed you have to return to the quest giver (or sometimes another npc), in order to
get your reward. If you wish to level quickly it can be good to collect a bunch of quests in one area or quest hub then do them together and return them all at once. This isn’t really possible just yet though because there arent that many quests my noobie mage is capable of doing. Some quests are known as quest chains, which as the name
suggests means the quests are linked to one another – that is to say you need to complete Part 1 of the quest chain
before Part 2. Some quest chains are particuarly long, and others very short. Usually the longer chains result in fairly decent rewards.

Handing in that quest was enough to push my experience high enough to gain a level. So DING! Congratulations to me,
I’m now ever so slightly less noobie than before. When you level up your stats go up, exactly which stats increase
at what rate depends on your class, this makes a lot of sense because after all a warrior with high intellect is as useless as a hunter without his bow.

Some quests let you choose which reward to take. If the rewards are equipment based be sure to check the type. Mages can only wear cloth. Other types include leather, mail and plate. You can still choose any of the quest rewards including these items its just you can only wear the cloth ones. Generally speaking if the rewards offered are nothing you want or can use then just pick the one with the highest resale value. This way you’re at least getting some profit out of it.

Now I’m required to provide some first aid to some of the wounded Dwarves here. I’ve been given an item to use on
them, so that’s pretty straight forward. First aid is also a profession in WoW but it’s slightly different to this
and we’ll look at professions in detail a little further down the track.

As I’ve been looting mobs you may have noticed me collecting coins. These are copper pieces. In WoW there are 3 denominations of currency. Copper, Silver and Gold. There is 100 copper in 1 silver, and 100 silver in one gold. This infers 1 gold to be worth 10000 copper. When you first start out you’ll probably only have a few silver or less, but don’t despair – their are some great ways to capitalize and increase your income, and I’ll be sharing those tips with you when the time comes! For now though, from looting, questing, and vendoring (vendoring means selling unwanted items) you should have enough for what you need. Generally Humanoids drop coins more frequently
than other creatures. I guess that makes some sense because I can’t really see a wolf or a turtle going to the bank!

From here we continue questing, doing what we have been asked to do, so that we can get our rewards and ultimately
complete harder challenges in tougher areas.

If you look closely the color of the name of an npc or mob will either be green, yellow or red. Green mobs are friendly and won’t attack you, yellow are neutral and will only attack if you attack first. In the not too distant future we’ll be seeing red ones. Red ones are hostile, and will attack you on site.

The distance you need to be in order for an enemy to start chasing you is called an aggro radius. This radius changes based on your level relative to the enemies. In other words if you are say level 40 or so, you could walk past a level 10 hostile enemy and it would ignore you, but a level 70 mob may start chasing you from way off in the distance.

Looks like another quest is complete so it’s handin time. This quest handin offers me a choice of 3 rewards. Again, I’ll choose the reward thats most useful to me. In this case I can wear the cloth reward, so lets choose
that one. There’s also the other quest to handin so we’ll do that quickly. This one offers only money and experience as a reward, which we won’t say no to!

Once we have recieve our reward we can press B to bring up our bags and right click on the item to equip it.>

Now I have no quests but if I look around I’ll see the other quest giver now has an exclamation mark on his head.
This is an example of the quest chaining I was talking about earlier, where one quest becomes available after
completion of another.

This quest is an example of a go-to quest. Go-To quests simply require you to go and talk to someone, they are often used to lure you to new questing hubs. Unless they are at the end of a long chain go-to quests usually don’t offer much in the way of goodies.

This goto’s purpose is to lure me to my class trainer so I can learn a new skill! Awesome!

I have a couple of non-combat pets (these are just for show) in my Mailbox due to things I’ve purchased in the past. Don’t worry if you don’t have these. Ignore the achievement I get for now as well, as we’ll talk about achievements at level 10. Also, you’ll notice from here on out the video is sped up, this is so we can cover more content in less time.

Upon handing in the go-to some more quests become available. I get asked to find 3 kegs of beer, since Dwarve’s cannot work without ale! Hmm, maybe I can score some for myself. The other guy here also wants me to check for any archaelogical fragments around. This confused me the first time I did it, as Archaeology is a profession in WoW so I thought I would need that profession to do this quest. It turns out however the items are just scattered around and can be picked up by anyone on the quest.

The beer isn’t too hard to find as it’s quite near the bunker that the quest giver was in. Also at pretty much any time during the game you can press the M key to bring up the world map. This can be extremely useful for locating quest objectives, and you’ll probably find yourself consulting it quite often.

Another thing to note is don’t forget to have some fun, you don’t have to ONLY kill the quest enemies for example. And if you feel really confident you could even try taking on more than one at once.

You’ll notice the archaelogical fragments shine and glimmer to help you notice them. Once upon a time in wow this never used to happen, and I can tell you when it did it was somewhat of a god send, as it made finding things volumes of times better.

Once we have the 3 kegs of beer and the fragments we return to the bunker hand them in. Handing them in opens up a new quest – a goto that requires us to see our trainer. We get given a piece of paper telling us to come in for training in the arcane ways. If you are playing as a different class you’ll get something similar asking you to visit your own trainer. Note: You can only be one class per character in World of Warcraft.

We visit our trainer and learn a new skill. Arcane missiles. We are told to go and practice using them. Arcane missiles are fun, but the way they are used is a bit quirky. They cost no mana to cast but you can only cast them when they activate (called proccing). They have a chance to proc when you use your normal skills. It shouldn’t take you too long to get used to them but it can be a little weird at first. For the moment just use them where and when you can. This spell is channelled meaning you have to stand still while casting it.

Once you’ve practiced return to your trainer and you’ll receieve a go to quest directing you to the next minor quest.

One of these next quests introduces you to Drop Rates. A Drop rate is the likelihood of a given mob to reward a given item as loot. An example here is boar meat, which you get from boars. You have to kill the boars but not every boar will drop meat (I’m not really sure how you can have a meatless boar but anyway…), we just have to keep wandering around farming bacon and wolf pelts. We also need to collect fragments from killing certain Troggs, the drop rate for the fragments seems a lot higher than the meat.

So we run around burning and womping anything and everything until we get what we want. – This is why mages are awesome! Remember to practice using your arcane missiles when they proc. The enemies shouldn’t be too hard to find and every kill awards experience, so every kill is one step closer to 85!

Depending on your luck low drop rate quests might take quite a while. As you can see I certainly aren’t having a high level of success! Eventually though you will get all the items you need, just persist – and make sure you are killing the right creatures.

Once you have farmed all the items you need return to the bunker to hand in the quests. Choose your rewards in the same manor as before, again, I claim the cloth item because I can use it. That handin is another level up and once finished here you’ll be sent off to a small dwarven camp.

The camp’s easy to find but use your map if you get lost. Don’t forget it doesn’t hurt to muck around and kill a few mobs along the way – afterall, it’s all loot and experience.

As you can see I randomly kill mobs for fun all the time, and keep in mind you’d have to kill them anyway if they were going to aggro you!

So now we head to the camp and handin our goto. This opens up a series quests involving trolls in caves and small villages. Apparantly the trolls are an even bigger threat to the Dwarves than the troggs. Something evil is controlling the trolls and you need to go talk to the soothsayers of each camp to find out what that is. On top of this you’ll need to kill 10 trolls as well as help the gnome find his tools – these are at the camps anyway so it’s a great chance to get a few quests done at once.

The trolls aren’t particularly difficult to defeat but if you are a new player be careful to engage just one at a time, or else you might end up at the graveyard!

The Soothsayers are friendly and will talk to you with ease just approach them, and for experience and the kill quest clear the areas of evil trolls. Each Soothsayer will reveal a little more about who or what is controlling the trolls. Once you’ve investigated all 3, killed 10 trolls and got the gnomes gear it’s time to return to camp for a couple of hand-ins.

Feel free to play about and kill some more mobs on the way back to the camp. It’s not required but if you’re having some fun owning them theres definetly no harm! Things are going to start getting more interesting soon, as we will soon be venturing out into the wider open world of Dun Morogh. First though we have to deal with the troll threat at hand.

Handin each quest and reap the rewards! Now the Soothsayers have revealed the truth it’s time to take care of things – mage style. You have to enter the cave so go on in there and blow up those trolls like no tomorrow. Ah, it’s good to be a mage! – And we have barely started getting our skills.

Just after entering the cave – DING – another level up. Awesome.

The enemies in the cave are neutral (once upon a time they weren’t) so you have the option of running straight past them to save time, or messing around and killing as many as you see fit. It’s entirely up to you. Use your minimap to help guide you to the two named mobs that you need to kill. Both aren’t very strong, and don’t worry – the fire elemental isn’t immune to your fire damage.

The troll leader isn’t much of a leader either, and will go down with a few fireballs. WoW definetly likes to ease you into things. This was a lot more challenging when the mobs here were hostile, but I guess I shouldn’t really complain.

It’s a good idea to fight your way out of the cave after killing the two named guys simply for the experience – and because they are easy to defeat. Plus, they drop copper and you need every cent you can get if your just starting out fresh.

Eventually you’ll be ready to return to camp and hand in. As always choose the most appropriate quest reward which in a mages case is the cloth belt.

That’s about all we have time for in today’s episode. Remember, if you found it entertaining please subscribe!

Ah, the sturdy Dwarf, one of the staple races of any good fantasy based game.

According to WoW lore, (READ INSET)

In World of Warcraft Dwarves come in more or less one size – short and stumpy! But although
they may appear rough on the outside many have kind hearts. Dwarves enjoy hunting, building
and downing more than a few ales at the local tavern!

As of the Cataclysm expansion Dwarves can play as
Warriors
Paladins
Hunters
Rogues
Priests
Shaman
Mages
Warlocks

So there are certainly plenty of choices class wise if a Dwarf is what you wish to be.

As with other races Dwarves get a number of passive bonuses. These are bonuses awarded simply
for being a Dwarf.

Dwarves have an increased critical chance with guns, making them ideal hunters. Also, as they
hail from cold and icy lands they have some innate resistance to frost damage. They are quite adept at using maces
and finally due to their inquisitive and constructive nature they can look for and find Archaeology fragments slightly faster than other races. There will be a video on Archaeology coming soon.

Dwarves, like all other races, also get an active ability. This is a skill that works like any other spell.
The Dwarven skill is called Stone Form. Stoneform is castable at will and has a 2 minute cool down. When you
use it the Dwarf turns to stone for 8 seconds – doing so removes all poison, disease and bleeding effects as well
as reducing all damage taken by 10%. 8 Seconds may not sound like long but it can be the difference between life
and death.

Dwarves are a fun class to play. They are one of my personal favourite classes, the only downside is the females
look a lot like the males! If you feel like a hearty adventurer, with a lust for battle but a soft spot deep down
then playing as a Dwarf may just be for you.

Hey Guys and Gals, Welcome once again to My World of World of Warcraft. Today’s Episode is all about the playable race “Human” and everything that goes along with that.

So lets get started!

According to WoW Lore ‘Humans are a young race, and highly versatile. They can be masters of Combat, Craftmanship and Magic. Humans are optimistic and valorous and have built great kingdoms.’

The downside of being a human is that humans are, well, pretty boring! I mean we are in a fantasy game here, the last thing we want are reminders of the real world! As a playable race however humans have a number of advantages.

Ever since the Cataclysm expansion pack Humans can be Warriors, Paladins, Hunters, Rogues, Priests, Mages and Warlocks. We’ll look at classes in more detail in a later video. For now let’s look at what makes Humans unique – apart from their rather mundane appearance!

In WoW every race has particular race-specific skills and bonuses. Humans get an increase to spirit, meaning they can regenerate resources like mana a little more quickly than others. Humans also get more faction reputation whenever it’s awarded. We’ll explore precisely what faction reputation is in another video. Humans also have increased expertise with Maces and Swords, making them quite effective at using these weapons.

So far these racial bonuses have been passive. Simply playing as a Human grants you them. The human racial skill however works more like any other skill or spell. It has to be activated and has a cool down before you can use it again. The Human racial skill lets you break out of speed altering and trapping effects. This is very useful particularly in player vs player situations.

All in all humans are a fairly well rounded race. They have a rich history and make their home in the stunning landscape that is Storm Wind. If you are happy to put up with the fact they are a little mundane then you will enjoy your human for years on end.

That’s it for this episode folks! Look out for the next episode where we take a look at Dwarfs.
